Bhotbhoti’s parents went away when he was very young, and his ‘daadi’ (grandmother) reared him in a ghetto near to the Ganges. Unfortunately, his ‘daadi’ is also no longer with us today. Bhotbhoti’s favorite tale that Daadi told was the one about mermaids and their world that lives or rather thrives underwater.
Daadi was a fantastic storyteller, and Bhotbhoti’s favorite story was about mermaids. Bhotbhoti’s opinion was further strengthened when he learned, not too long ago, about a narrative (movie) about mermaids called The Mermaid Princess that floats on the screen of the television.
His most valued item, the DVD of the movie, is kept in the little trunk that is stored below his chowki (bed) until he pulls it out every night and puts it into his scratched but not broken, collected, and mended DVD player, which brings him his Ariel (the name of the mermaid in the film).
While the other members of his gang are becoming tipsy, the Ganges beckons to him, and he dives into the river to search for his mermaid queen, but she is difficult to find.
