Knowing why something might make you happy or sad could provide insight as to what would motivate a person who doesn’t have any interest in doing anything but sleep all day long (which we’ll talk more about soon).

Depression is a mental illness, which means it takes up space in your brain and can keep you from doing anything that requires concentration. With this in mind, one way of getting motivated when depressed might be to take the time and think about what would make you happy or sad – then do that thing! You can’t let depression control how much energy you have for life; instead, try using small moments during your day where you know depression won’t interfere so that you don’t slip into an even deeper hole than before.

Every person’s triggers will be different but some common ones are not being able to sleep at night, being around people who have similar moods, and feeling like you’re not worthy or good enough.

Being in your room surrounded by all the things that remind you how bad life is can make it difficult to get motivated – so try getting out! It doesn’t even need to be outside; just go sit in an area with different scenery than what’s inside.

5.Try something new

It could seem daunting but trying something new sometimes helps break up the routine which then makes us feel bored and depressed because we’ve done everything before.

If there are certain things that sound fun on paper, give them a shot! You might find yourself surprised and actually liking something you never thought you would.

6.Get some fresh air and exercise

This one is a no-brainer, but it can be difficult to do when we’re in such a low state of mind. The best way to get motivated is by feeling good about ourselves; the keyword here being “feeling.

Exercise doesn’t just help us physically – it also releases endorphins which make us feel better about our mental health as well!

Even if all you want to do at this point is take a short walk outside or maybe gardening for 30 minutes, that’s still more than what most people are doing on an inactive day – so try making time for yourself today.

7.Go for a walk

Another way to get some fresh air and exercise – a walk in the park, around your neighborhood, or on the beach can be just what you need.

The scenery will change things up for you and if nothing else it’ll give your mind something different to focus on.

Enjoying nature is an important first step when feeling low; don’t forget how beautiful this world really is!

8.Don’t overschedule

If you are feeling overwhelmed by how much you have to do, that can make your depression worse. Take some time off and just relax for a while – it’s okay!

Schedule relaxation tasks like an hour-long hot bath or taking care of the house plants- give yourself permission to take this time for yourself.

Don’t overschedule because when we’re depressed, we often feel stressed about what needs to be done with our days; but then end up doing nothing at all which is only depressing us more.

If there really isn’t anything else on today’s agenda besides resting (and I don’t know any depressive who would object!), go ahead and rest as much as possible. Remember, mental health must always come first.

9.Avoid negativity

The last thing we want to do is surround ourselves with people or things that remind us of how horrible our depression makes us feel. So, avoid anything and everything negative – don’t watch the news; stay away from sad songs on your iPod playlist; no more reading depressing literature until you’re feeling better? Avoid negativity at all costs when you are depressed because it will only make you feel worse!

To motivate me when I am depressed, I try to keep a positive attitude. When things are not going so well in my life, it is important that I have someone who can encourage me and lift up my spirits. As much as possible, make an effort to stay around people who will support you during this difficult time.

When you feel like the world has lost its color, try something new! Go on a date with your spouse or partner; read a good book; go for long walks outside – anything that forces yourself out of the house and into the sunlight (if possible).

Depression makes us want to sleep all day but what we need more than anything else at these times is sunshine? It’ll help boost our moods which will make it easier to fight against depression.

Engage in some type of physical activity, even if you are not feeling like doing anything at all! It will release endorphins into the system which will help remove those feelings of sadness or lethargy that we feel when we’re depressed.

Exercise is a natural antidepressant and this one has no side effects!

If none of these things seem to be working for me, I try to find other ways to get my mind off everything and on something I enjoy.

Look up old recipes that you used back before life got so complicated; go through your photo albums from high school again – there’s always something about pictures from our past that can bring out happy memories, or read an uplifting book.

The key thing to remember when you are depressed is that it’s okay to not feel like doing anything at all – sometimes, rest and relaxation can be just as good for us in the long run as exercise or staying busy!

And most importantly of all, don’t allow yourself to stay down a depressive cycle too long because depression often leads back into more sadness. If your mood starts going downhill again after feeling better from time to time, try one of the other suggestions on this list until you find what works best for you.
